It all began with a bunch of mates working on bikes ….
In 2018, a bunch of work mates got together to hang out, work on bikes and be intentional about having “awkward conversations” about life’s challenges. This small group and these conversations had an impact on the individuals involved, and so they wondered how they could create this for others, and the dream of the Motorcycle Collective was born….
Where we’ve been …
Our immediate, short term goals were to set up our mobile workshop and find a number of locations to operate from on a regular basis. We have been fortunate to have been given permission to use the car park on Hill Street in the Wellington CBD, the car park at the Tawa Outlets and our friends at the NZ Motorcycle Center. We’ve been regular attendants at these for the last 4 years.
Once established at these locations, we started building the Motorcycle Collective community of members, volunteers, friends and supporters.
Where we are now …
In the winter of 2026 we made the difficult but very logical decision to part ways with the custom built trailer (and tow vehicle) and purchase a ‘transit’ style van. This came about after the realisation that the trailer wasn’t really being used to its full capacity plus it was a challenge to get it to events and our regular meet-ups. The van solves these issues by being easier to drive yet still offering all the tools and equipment needed to work on bikes.
Where we’re going …
With some momentum behind us, we would love to find a permanent location to operate from and expand our capabilities, both mechanical and social. We are actively looking for more volunteers to help with the events and local meet-ups and of course would encourage more members to join us.

Reaching Out and Building Support
